VACorps Instagram Takeover

After VACorps noticed my visual storytelling skills on my own Instagram account during my time in Cape Town, I was approached to takeover the VACorps company Instagram to share my journeys within the city and my internship at Reach Digital. I got to speak with the lovely Athena who runs the account and encouraged me along the way (she also happened to the first person I ever interviewed with before my summer in Cape Town was ever a reality).

I tried to chose from various topics and adventures while also posting often and consistently (morning, afternoon, and evening – much more than I ever would get to do with my personal account, but I had a lot of stories to tell within just one week so no shame).

I was the guinea pig and many of my fellow interns took over the account after me, but attached are the nine posts that I personally crafted for my takeover!

Again, I’m talking about food. If you’re ever in need of Saturday plans or just an avid brunch fan, you MUST go to Old Biscuit Mill at least once while you’re here (but you’ll probably end up going every weekend, like I have). The first time we went was literally mind blowing I’m still recovering. SO much to choose from! Food, music, shopping, etc. You and your friends can also try the escape rooms at HintHunt found in the Biscuit Mill as well! Great for a rainy day or just a bonding activity, you’ll have so much fun solving a murder mystery or saving a sinking torpedo in under an hour! I spent way more time than I’d ever care to admit crafting these posts and making a cohesive look. I had a blast while doing it and that’s all the counts right? (I practically go to school for this so I better enjoy it) and some even reached out with questions for when they come to Cape Town themselves!

But like I said above, I wasn’t the only one who got to have fun on the @VACorps page — it’s full of stories like mine and other beautiful photos of the Mother City if anyone is curious to check it out! And feel free to follow my personal account, @ryan_debra, for my adventures now that I’m back in the US!

There is SO much to do in South Africa it’s only right that we capture our adventures and share them with the rest of the world. If South Africa is not on your travel list — add it NOW.
